I passed by a vacant lot the other day. It's, variously, a pumpkin patch , a Christmas tree lot and a dumping ground for crap through out the year. It was full of pumpkins. Being the time of year, and all.
But it also sported a brand new big sign. "Under New management".
Please. Am I the only one who thinks this is funny, and kind of sad. Really. How badly can you manage a pumpkin patch so that people don't want to ever buy from you again? You buy the pumpkins; you put them on the ground and wait for people to come. Right?
The fact that our intrepid entrepreneur felt it necessary to inform neighborhood people that he was in charge as opposed to the other guy who sold pumpkins last year - and that this would be a major selling point - puzzled me. Does he arrange the pumpkins in concentric circles (like alien crop circles) rather than straight lines; does he polish them; sing to them? Exactly how are his new managerial capabilities going to enhance my pumpkin-buying experience?
Answers, please, via e-mail, to moi.
